Robbie Coltrane in Cracker TV series

Created and written by Jimmy McGovern, Cracker was a British crime drama series produced by Granada Television for ITV. There were 3 series between 1993 to 1995, followed by a feature length special in 1996.

The main charcter was Dr. Edward “Fitz” Fitzgerald, played by Robbie Coltrane, and as described as “the classic anti-hero, an alcoholic chain-smoker and gambling addict, but at the same time a brilliant psychologist with a good heart”.

The series was filmed in South Manchester, at locations including Didsbury (where Fitz lived at the fictitious address of “15 Charlotte Road”) and the police station at Longsight. The internals for the police station were filmed in the old Daily Mirror offices in central Manchester, now The Printworks retail complex.
