Reebok Pump trainer boots

Wow trainers you can actually inflate! Reebok Pump trainers made the news when they came over from America in the early 90’s. The pump technology was patented in 1992.

The tongue of the trainer featured a plastic basketball which you pressed repeatedly to pump air into the soles of the shoe. You could later deflate them too.

They were worn and endorsed by several celebrity basketball players such as Shaquille O’Neal. It was suggested that the air enabled you to jump that tiny bit higher when performing the slam-dunk trick.

They were not cheap, but they were certainly desirable for kids of a certain age in the 90s. The look and style of the trainers was particularly unique and eye-catching at the time.
